High School Entrance Exam Prep: SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, and TACHS

For many students, high school entrance exams are their first experience with high-stakes testing. The SHSAT opens the door to New York City's specialized high schools, including Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. The SSAT and ISEE are required for most competitive private and independent school applications. The TACHS is the exam used for admission to Catholic high schools in the New York Archdiocese. Each test has its own format, content, and timing, and each rewards students who have spent time learning how it works before they sit down to take it.

Preparation makes a real difference at this level, not because the material is out of reach, but because familiarity with the structure and question types reduces anxiety and improves pacing. Students who walk in having practiced under realistic conditions tend to perform more consistently than students who are encountering the format for the first time on test day.
